It is hard to believe that 14 years have passed since I first stood behind a small table at a craft fair in Fort Lauderdale, watching people stop in their tracks to look at a handful of sparkly lollipops. Back then, Sweet Caroline Confections wasn’t a global brand or a team of talented candy artists. It was just me, a lot of late nights in a home kitchen, and a wild idea that candy could be as beautiful as the jewelry I was originally trying to sell.
Looking back on 2012, the world felt very different, and so did my life. I was working in banking by day and crafting semi-precious jewelry by night. The lollipops were actually meant to be a secondary item, a little "treat" to draw people toward my jewelry booth. But life has a funny way of shifting your path. Within hours of that first fair, it wasn’t the necklaces people were asking about; it was the "sparkle pops."
The Early Days in Florida
The first "kitchen" where Sweet Caroline Confections was born wasn't a sleek, industrial facility. It was my own kitchen, filled with the smell of simmering sugar and the sound of a candy thermometer clicking against the side of a pot. In those early years, I was a self-taught candy artist, learning the delicate balance of temperature and timing through trial and error.
I remember the feeling of those first few orders coming in on Etsy. Every single lollipop was a labor of love. I would spend hours ensuring the glitter was distributed just right and that the clarity of the candy was as close to glass as possible. It was a rhythmic, meditative process, but it was also exhausting. I would finish a full day at the bank and then head straight into the kitchen to pour lollipops until the early morning hours.

Those early days taught me the value of the artisanal touch. Even as we grew, we never wanted to lose that "handmade" feel. If you look closely at our lollipops today, you’ll often see tiny bubbles trapped within the sugar. To some, those might look like imperfections, but to us, they are the hallmark of an artisanal product. They are proof that a human hand poured that candy, not a giant, soulless machine.
From Home Kitchen to Global Brand
The transition from a side hustle to a full-time business happened faster than I ever expected. People started realizing that these weren't just lollipops; they were tiny pieces of art that could be customized for the most important moments in their lives.
We eventually made the big move from Florida to Colorado, settling into our current 3,000-square-foot facility in Denver, CO. This move was a turning point. It allowed us to scale up our production without sacrificing the quality that made us "The Original Sparkle Lollipops." We went from selling at local fairs to being carried in over 800 stores across the U.S. and Canada.
One of the most surreal parts of this 14-year journey has been seeing our work embraced by brands I have admired for years. To know that our lollipops have been loved by the teams at Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Meta, and Pinterest (♥️) is something I still have to pinch myself about. Whether it’s a high-end fashion launch or a corporate branding event, the goal remains the same: to create a moment of "wow" when someone sees that sparkle for the first time.

The Beauty of the Process
People often ask what makes our lollipops different from the mass-produced ones you find in big-box stores. It really comes down to the ingredients and the intent. We have always stayed true to being a brand that is inclusive. Our lollipops are Vegan, Gluten-Free, Nut-Free, and Dairy-Free, because we believe everyone should be able to enjoy a bit of sparkle regardless of their dietary needs.
The process of creating a custom lollipop is quite intricate. When a client comes to us with a vision, whether it's matching a specific wedding color palette or incorporating a corporate logo, we take that responsibility seriously. We aren't just making candy; we are helping people celebrate milestones.

We take pride in the clarity of our candy. It acts as a lens for the sparkles, gold flakes, and custom graphics inside. While we have modernized our techniques, we still use the same core principles I learned in my Florida kitchen back in 2012. We carefully manage our lead times to ensure every batch is fresh when it ships worldwide. And yes, to keep them safe and hygienic during their journey to you, each one is individually wrapped in its own plastic bag: a necessary step to preserve that crystal-clear finish and keep them food-safe.
Reflecting on 14 Years
If I could go back and talk to that version of myself in 2012, I think she’d be overwhelmed by where we are today. Sweet Caroline Confections has grown into more than just a business; it’s a community. We’ve been part of thousands of weddings, baby showers, and "just because" gifts.
The most rewarding part isn't the big brand names or the media mentions: though those are wonderful. It’s the photos we receive from customers showing a child’s eyes lighting up at a birthday party, or a bride seeing her custom stirrers for the first time. Those are the moments that make the late nights in the kitchen worth it.
We’ve learned a lot along the way. We’ve learned how to ship delicate candy across the globe, how to innovate with new flavors and textures, and how to stay grounded as the world around us speeds up. But at the end of the day, we are still that same brand that started with a single pot of sugar and a dream to make the world a little more sparkly.

What’s Next for the Sparkle?
As we look toward the future, we aren’t looking to become a giant, automated factory. We want to keep that artisanal spirit alive. We want to keep being the "Original" by focusing on quality, creativity, and the personal touch that only a founder-led business can provide.
Whether you’ve been with us since the 2012 craft fair days or you’re just discovering us now, thank you for being part of our story. We can’t wait to see where the next 14 years take us. If you're ready to add some sparkle to your next event, we'd love to help you create something special. You can always reach out for a custom order request or browse our latest collections online.
Here’s to many more years of handmade, sparkly magic.
